Joe Stapleton
Joe Stapleton hails from upstate New York, which he wants people to realize is "nothing like New York City. It's basically Alabama with snow." After college in Boston, Stapleton immediately packed his bags for California in order to realize his dreams in Hollywood, California. He settled for working at MADtv instead.
After being unlucky enough to be laid off during the summers, but having been lucky enough to have hitched his star to former poker quasi-celebrity Scott Huff’s wagon back in college (in the least gay way possible) – the two started working for Card Player Magazine during the 2005 World Series of Poker.
From there Stapleton went on to have his own humor columns in Card Player College, and then to produce Card Player’s featured video content during the 2006 World Series of Poker. During this time, he also shared many of Huff’s producing duties on the popular but long-forgotten poker radio series “The Circuit.”
When PokerWire spoke of resurrecting the aforementioned Gavin Smith-Joe Sebok helmed behemoth, the two said there was only one man from the job. Huff wasn’t available. Seven or eight choices down the line, they had their new host – Joe Stapleton!
Wooing him away from MADtv with promises of prop bets and shrimp cocktails, Stapleton was at first wary: “Dealing with the fragile egos of Tinseltown still didn’t prepare me nearly enough for Joe and Gavin.” When asked about his qualifications for the job, Stapleton responded with “It’s pretty simple. I’ve been listening to radio all my life.”PokerWire is a real-time tournament reporting service that provides chip counts, status updates, videos, radio broadcasts, and behind-the-scenes insights into the action at major poker tournaments around the world.
